The Fort Smith Arkansas native, JD Clayton, released his debut album Long Way From Home, early last year which has received overwhelming critical acclaim. There’s no artifice surrounding the Arkansas-born singer and songwriter. No glitz. No pretension or mythology. JD Clayton’s sound, and where he chooses to make it—Arkansas, the most western of the southern states—is a bridge between the southern rock on which he was raised, and the truth telling tradition from the 70s era of country music that he most favors.

As a result, the songs on his thrilling new album Blue Sky Sundays, feel both lived in and completely free. Like any great songwriter, Clayton is both leader and follower, telling his own story but reveling in how it unfolds in live time and relates to listeners individually. “The album is about clarity. It’s about leaving the things that let us down behind,” Clayton says. “It’s about love and family and joy. It took me about four months of being sober to have a clear enough head to process this. I think I finally understand that piece of the puzzle at least.”

In the decade since their stripped-down 2012 debut, The Tanglewood Sessions, brought them to Bonnaroo, Boy Named Banjo have taken Nashville and beyond by storm with a series of critically acclaimed, genre-bending releases that have earned performances everywhere from the Ryman to the Grand Ole Opry alongside dates supporting the likes of Kip Moore, Hank Williams, Jr., Old Crow Medicine Show, and the Cadillac Three.

On their latest album, Dusk, Boy Named Banjo explored the full sonic and emotional spectrum of their rich, eclectic sound, from late-night, feel-good anthems to stripped-down, introspective meditations on loneliness, loss, and letting go.

While the band explored genres and flexed their range on Dusk, they have been working on a new body of music that marks a full-circle return to their Americana and bluegrass roots.“In the ten-plus years we’ve been together, we’ve explored many different sounds,” says banjoist and vocalist Barton Davies, “but the one we keep coming back to is that folky, acoustic sound that inspired us to pick up our instrumentsin the first place.” The group’s new music is slated for release in 2024.

David Ramirez

“David Ramirez has a voice like a tall tale, one minute strong and thick, the next threadbare and careworn.” — Stereogum

“Mr. Ramirez is a resolutely hesitant singer, never pushing his hurt, letting it instead decay him from within.” — The New York Times

“It's not easy for a writer to maintain the aura of the unspoken in a song. Music and the space surrounding it intensify the impact of confession; the true challenge comes in giving voice to a narrator who's tongue-tied, or simply reticent. Texas singer-songwriter David Ramirez does so beautifully…” — NPR Music

DON'T MISS OUT on welcoming back Pony Bradshaw to Knoxville!

On his new album North Georgia Rounder, Pony Bradshaw leads the listener on an exploration of the woods, rivers, and mountains of Appalachia, more specifically, the area for which the album is named and he’s called home for the past 15 years. “It’s got its hooks in me,” Bradshaw says of North Georgia, and it shows, with songs that quickly establish a setting, much like the one he initiated with the album’s predecessor, Calico Jim. The sonic excursion includes stops along the Conasauga River, visits to the holler, and a few diversions—nearby Knoxville plays a supporting role, as do Louisiana and Arkansas. It’s an impressionistic journey of introspection and connection all at once.

Bogues

Bogues is the brainchild of Nashville's AJ Gruenewald who writes lyrics straight from the heart, based around topics of heartbreak, loss, and navigating the different stages of life. Bogues' music can be compared to the likes of Andy Shauf and Phoebe Bridgers, but has a uniqueness and warmth to it that begs the need to hear more.

You can listen to Bogues' newest EP I Know You're Getting Older on all streaming platforms, and you won't be dissappointed.

Nancy Ann

Nancy Ann is no stranger to a Born & Raised singer songwriter showcase, and we just had to bring her back. Hailing from small-town Ohio and moving her roots to Knoxville, TN, she brings a wholesome and fun energy to her pop-americana genre that she's connected with. In Canvas Rebel Magazine, she states "My songs tend to gravitate towards interpersonal relationships and the experiences that shape them."

You can stream her single "Coffee and Tea" as well as her other music on all streaming platforms, and be prepared for it to be stuck in your head.

Lazarus Lake

Michael Jones’ love of family pervades his music. As the artist behind the alternative country project Lazarus Lake, he titled his inaugural single “Family Tree” to express his yearning for the family ties that brought him up. Michael has been reaping the benefits of his family’s love of music, from the very beginning until now. "I want my audience to hear the sounds and stories of my childhood, and through my music, I want to reconnect them to their roots. ”You can stream Lazarus Lake's single "Family Tree" on all streaming platforms and you will absolutely not regret it.

Joseph Barnum

Joseph Barnum, once Middle Tennessee local, now Knoxville native, is Born and Raised Productions' own singer songwriter (self proclaimed "lowercase 's' singer"). Joseph has toured across the eastern United States under the pseudonym "Ponder" but is looking to try his own name on for size.

His music can be found HERE, and he's the one writing this bio.

Zach Russell

For decades now, musicians and songwriters have flocked to Nashville, Tennessee, in hopes of starting or fortifying their careers in the music industry. Zach Russell, who, subconsciously or not, bucks a number of trends in today’s music world, found the opposite to be true. It wasn’t until moving away from Music City U.S.A. that Russell inked his first record deal with tenacious indie label Thirty Tigers.

For seven years in Nashville, Russell studied how fellow writers and performers were approaching their craft, even spending a stint on the road as Tyler Childers’ merchandise manager. Getting a firsthand look at precisely what it takes to chase down greatness, Russell believed he could achieve it as well. But ultimately, taking a breather from Nashville brought clarity—and lots of songs—to the East Tennessee-based artist, and got the ball rolling on what would become Russell’s debut full-length album, Where The Flowers Meet The Dew out Dec 1st.

Grady Spencer & the Work

Grady Spencer & the Work is a band built from blood, tears, and sweat. A whole lot of sweat. Grady was born and raised in the West Texas plains, where he learned not only the value of a hard day’s work, but also how to play the acoustic guitar.

Following his love for the music of Jack Johnson, Grady would quickly realize that the music that he was playing was not only a hobby but a dream that he would be chasing for the rest of his life. In 2013, Grady would meet Blake Sager, the original and long-withstanding drummer of the band. Several roster alterations and changes over the years would eventually lead Grady to also find and convince bassist Johnny Hatcher and lead guitarist Tyler Martin to join the band as well. Since late 2017, this group of close friends and teammates have been working together to craft two full-length albums and countless live shows across the country.
